The Anxious Generation
By Jonathon Haidt
A book about the first teens ever to use social media, it speaks to the greater joys of childhood before screens took over. In book club, we had mixed responses, with some moms swearing they’ll never let their kid have a phone until high school, and other moms already deep in the trenches of their sixth and seventh graders texting and scrolling on instagram. Some say it’s still impossible to avoid, others want to force the days of old into our current stratosphere. But one thing everyone agreed on, is that phones for kids are exhausting. And they can be helpful when you need to get ahold of your kid because you’re running late to pick them up, and where the heck is the gym door again?
